Nigerian Brokerage Firms

Source review date: . Broker terms and regulatory records can change. Confirm the details directly before opening or funding an account.

Use this Nigerian brokerage directory to compare published entry amounts, trading access and fee information. The seven examples below are drawn from firms previously listed on this page and are arranged alphabetically. They are a starting point for your checks, not a ranking or a complete list of Nigerian stockbrokers.

How to verify a Nigerian stockbroker

  1. Search the SEC registered-operator register for the exact legal entity, rather than only the app or group name. Check its registered function and current account status. The SEC file numbers below help distinguish similarly named companies.
  2. For trading NGX-listed securities, check the firm in the NGX Trading License Holder Directory. Review the current status and any restrictions. SEC registration and exchange trading membership are separate checks.
  3. Match the account-opening documents, official website and payment beneficiary to the firm you verified. Get clarification through independently verified official contact details if anything differs.
  4. Ask for the latest written fee schedule, account minimum and withdrawal terms before sending money. Registration does not guarantee investment returns or the safety of every offer using a firm’s name.

Nigerian brokerage firms: published details

Read the qualifications beside each figure. An advertised starting amount, account-opening balance and minimum trade value are different things. “Not publicly verified” means this review did not establish a current figure from the official sources checked; it does not mean the service is free or unavailable.

The regulator column identifies records found in SEC sources. It is not an independent certificate of current licensing. Individual live NGX status was not verified for these rows; use the official directory before choosing a broker.

Name checks: the Meritrade service identifies its brokerage entity as Meristem Stockbrokers Limited. First Securities Brokers is the current name shown in the linked official site and SEC record; its account form still contains FBNQuest Securities wording. Match the legal entity and registration details when using older documents.

Other firms from this directory

These official contact routes retain the remaining firms from the earlier list. Their current fees, minimums, platform availability and regulatory status have not been verified for a like-for-like comparison here. They are not ranked below the firms in the table.

Compare the full cost of your intended trade

A brokerage commission is only one part of the amount you may pay. Ask each firm for an example using the same stock, trade value and channel. Request separate purchase and sale totals, including applicable statutory charges, taxes, transaction-alert fees and any minimum commission. Also ask about funding, withdrawal, custody, inactivity and portfolio-transfer charges where relevant.

For illustration only, a 1% brokerage commission on a ₦100,000 trade is ₦1,000 before any other charges. A broker’s quoted commission cannot be compared directly with another broker’s all-in total.

Check what happens when an order is only partly filled or executed in several clips, since fixed charges may apply more than once. Ask whether an advertised minimum is an opening deposit, a minimum investment, a portfolio-value requirement or a minimum order.

Questions to ask before you open an account

  • Which legal entity will hold my brokerage relationship, and how are my holdings recorded with CSCS or the relevant custodian?
  • Can I place and cancel orders through my preferred channel? What is the backup route when the platform is unavailable?
  • Which order types are supported, and when can an unfilled order expire or be cancelled?
  • When are sale proceeds available for withdrawal, and what verification or withdrawal charges apply?
  • What documents are required for my residence and account type? Are there extra requirements for diaspora or corporate accounts?
  • How do I obtain contract notes and statements, transfer holdings, or escalate an unresolved complaint?

How this directory was checked

This revision compares information published by the brokers themselves with SEC identity/function records and provides the NGX directory for exchange-status checks. Each row links its sources and gives the review date. Published claims are identified as such; the review did not open funded accounts, place trades, benchmark execution speed, test withdrawals or measure customer support.

There are no numerical “Naija Investing Hub Scores” in this revision. The earlier scores did not provide the underlying evidence needed for readers to reproduce the ratings. Alphabetical order makes no claim about service quality, returns or suitability.

Older documents remain useful for spotting questions to ask, but they are not treated as current price quotes. Where official materials disagree, are dated, or do not disclose a value, the limitation is stated instead of estimating a fee or minimum. SEC search pagination can move as the register changes, so search by the exact legal name and file number if a linked page no longer shows the record.

Risk note: this directory provides general information. It does not recommend a broker or a security for your personal circumstances. Investments can lose value, and you should assess the relevant risks and terms before committing money.
